My years of participating in the Science Fair
reinforced my belief that it was possible to formulate a new hypothesis
and not just report on other people's discoveries. My experience taught
me how to look for help, find resources and documentation and write
a letter to obtain materials. In short, it taught me how to take action.
This project also enabled me to satisfy my interest in science and
social causes. I experimented with the use of organic waste from sewers
to counter desertification. That project earned me a ticket to the
Canada-wide Science Fair, which meant another great get-together,
a party, a one-week vacation and the chance to be on my own, away
from home.
