Science Fairs today

Every year,100 regional Science Fairs are held across Canada. Some 25,000 high school and Cegep students exhibit at a regional fair. Local Science Fairs held in schools serve as the first level of competition. Every spring, more than 8,000 young people aged 12 to 20 participate in the Quebec Science Fairs.

The winners of the 12 Regional Science Fairs, organized by the regional Conseils du loisir scientifique, go on to the Quebec finals – the Bell Super Science Fairs. Participants representing every region of Quebec present a total of 95 projects at the event.

The head judge of the Bell Super Science Fair is Jacques-Yves Gauthier, a researcher at Merck Frosst Canada. Jacques Yves is passionate about promoting science education among youth. This is why Merck Frosst provides financial support for the Experiment Section of the Science Fairs and sponsors the entire Quebec delegation at the Canada-wide Science Fairs.
