The origin of Science Fairs

Science Fairs have existed in Quebec for 40 years. Over the years, young scientists-in-the-making have presented creative projects. In 1980, the Quebec Science Fairs made a quantum leap with the creation of regional chapters responsible for promoting school participation. A pyramid-structured tournament was implemented. Today, Quebec chapters organizes their own regional finals. The winners from each region go on to participate in the Bell Super Science Fairs finals.

Quebec is also a leader in the International Science Fair and was the founding member of the International Movement for Leisure Activities in Science and Technology. The first International Science Fair was held in 1987 in Quebec City. Quebec participants are selected at the provincial level to participate in the International Science Fair, held every two years.
